Dear TJ Parents, Students, Faculty, Staff, and Friends,
Thank you to all in our TJ community who dedicated their time and effort to the successful completion of our Strategic Plan. We had remarkable thoughtfulness and enthusiasm in listening sessions, workshops, and in every aspect of the planning sessions.
The Strategic Plan was developed by the TJ community (including parents, faculty, students, and alumni) during listening sessions, from online input, and from a two-day workshop where almost forty members of the TJ community gathered to brainstorm and critically consider TJ’s future. With a shared vision, collaboration and teamwork, the workshop participants produced the initial draft of TJ’s new Strategic Plan. An editing team refined the first draft of the Plan, and the edited draft was circulated to members of the TJ community including parents, the entire faculty, staff, and Board for additional comments. We further revised that working draft into a final version that was presented to the TJ Board of Trustees.
At its April meeting, the Thomas Jefferson Board of Trustees approved and adopted the new Strategic Plan designed to direct the school’s growth and development over the next several years. The plan is not a radical departure from the school’s traditional values but it is an ambitious plan that will strengthen the foundation with strategic goals necessary to keep us on target and true to our mission.
The details of the Strategic Plan are contained in the complete document available here. There are five main focus areas in the Strategic Plan, and each has a main goal, rationale, and implementation discussion in the complete plan.
The five main Strategic Plan goals are:
1) The Program: Opportunities for Excellence
2) The Heart of the School: Faculty, Administration, and Staff
3) Sustaining a Strong Community: Students and Student Life
4) Building a Strong Foundation: Finance and Development
5) An Environment that Supports and Invites Learning: Campus Facilities
During the summer, the process of implementing the Strategic Plan will begin in earnest, beginning with implementation planning sessions which will be facilitated by Susan Stone. Susan helped guide us through the plan development process, and has valuable experience with strategic plan implementation as well.
The Strategic Planning process not only enabled us to gain a greater understanding of TJ’s strengths and the challenges facing us but, more importantly, it made apparent that we all do, in fact, share a common vision for our School and for our children’s education.
As you read through the Strategic Plan, we hope you will share our excitement about the future of Thomas Jefferson, and will participate in the Plan’s successful implementation.
Sincerely,
Debra Humphreys
